The Associated Press is the essential global news network, delivering accurate, insightful news from every corner of the world, 24 hours a day. Since its founding in 1846, AP has been the first to report many of history’s most important moments, and every day, AP journalists, photographers and videographers file news from the front lines of the world's biggest stories.
AP’s reporting, photography, audio and video are published and broadcast by the world’s leading newspapers, TV channels, apps, radio stations, websites and magazines—in fact, over half the world’s population sees AP news content on any given day.
As a leader in the field of journalism, AP fights for freedom of the press and the public’s right to know. Its reporters take great risks to file in-depth stories from countries where the press is otherwise restrained, and in the U.S., AP aggressively uses the Freedom of Information Act to advocate for transparency and accountability in government.
With more experience reporting and delivering news than any other agency, a well-earned reputation for independence and accuracy, and a fierce commitment to the people’s right to know, AP is the definitive source for trusted news.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - The New York Giants have taken Ohio State cornerback Eli Apple with the 10th pick overall in the NFL draft.
Cornerback seemingly was not a major need for the NFL's worst defense after the team signed free agent Janoris Jenkins to play opposite Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie.
The Giants didn't mind that Apple's interceptions went down this past season as opponents tended to shy away from targeting receivers he covered.
Apple is the third Ohio State player taken in the Top 10 after defensive lineman Joey Bosa and running back Ezekiel Elliott.
Apple had 56 tackles and four interceptions in two seasons with the Buckeyes.
IRVING, Texas (AP) - The Dallas Cowboys have taken Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott with the fourth overall pick in the NFL draft.
It's the highest Dallas has drafted a running back since taking Hall of Famer Tony Dorsett second overall in 1977. All-time NFL rushing leader Emmitt Smith went 17th to the Cowboys in 1990.
Running back wasn't the biggest need going into Thursday night's draft with Darren McFadden coming off a strong season and the Cowboys adding two-time Pro Bowler Alfred Morris from Washington in free agency.
But the Cowboys will get to put the top-rated running back in the draft behind one of the NFL's best offensive lines. Dallas took blockers in the first round three times in a span of four seasons starting in 2011.
SAN DIEGO (AP) - The San Diego Chargers have taken Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa with the third pick in the NFL draft.
Many people had expected the Chargers to take either a left tackle or to pick Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey.
Bosa's collegiate career ended on a down note when he was ejected in the first quarter in the Fiesta Bowl for targeting Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer.
The Chargers are coming off a 4-12 season in which they went winless in the AFC West. They're also trying to get a citizens' initiative on the November 8th ballot to help fund a new stadium to stay in San Diego.
CINCINNATI (AP) - After being shut out of the top receivers, the Bengals took cornerback William Jackson the Third from Houston with the 24th overall pick in the NFL draft Thursday night.
Cincinnati needed a receiver after losing Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu to free agency. The Bengals signed Brandon LaFell, but need someone else there as well. They got shut out when the Texans, Redskins and Vikings all took receivers in the three spots ahead of them. The Bengals are likely to address the position later in this draft.
It's the third time in the last five years that the Bengals made a cornerback their top pick. They took Dre Kirkpatrick in 2012 and Darqueze Dennard in 2014. Kirkpatrick and Adam "Pacman" Jones return as the starters.
