Z. Daniel Barnett joined the AVC News team in 2011, since which time he has strived to bring timely, impartial coverage to AVC's six stations each and every weekday morning. An AP-award winning journalist and editor, he currently serves as AVC Communications' news director.

Early in his career, Daniel delivered news of the infamous Zanesville exotic animal escape in October 2011 to listeners at home and "across the Pond" as a featured reporter on BBC's PM with Eddie Mair; braved the elements to broadcast up-to-the-minute information during the severe summer storms of 2012; and followed the court proceedings of six suspects connected to the Coventry Estates double homicide of June 2012.

Since then, Daniel has also served as AVC's chief political reporter. He followed the debate over Common Core legislation at the Ohio Statehouse; interviewed state and national politicians, such as Sens. Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman, Attorney General Mike DeWine and former Gov. Ted Strickland; and followed Gov. John Kasich's presidential campaign to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

On a day-to-day basis, Daniel's reporting focus is on crime and the courts, education, local and state government and shale energy.

While at AVC, Daniel has expanded coverage of local elections as organizer and moderator of the bi-annual Meet the Candidates forum. He also serves as Arts and Culture Correspondant and occassional host of Talk of the Town on Cambridge Community TV2.

BPW members to highlight pay inequality by handing out information, PayDay candybars

CAMBRIDGE, Ohio -- Members of the Guernsey-Noble Business and Professional Women on Tuesday will highlight national Equal Pay Day in downtown Cambridge.

Long-time BPW member Betty Duche tells AVC News that in Ohio, women are paid, on average, 73 cents for every dollar that a man would make doing the same job. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, women in the United States are paid 77 percent of what a man might make. Over the course of a lifetime, that means women are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars less than men to do similar or the same work.

Duche also highlighted a recent report that says that, at the current rate of progress, the pay gap will remain until 2040.

Guernsey-Noble BPW members will recognize Equal Pay Day on Tuesday by handing out flyers and PayDay candy bars from noon to 1 p.m. on Wheeling Avenue.

The Guernsey-Noble BPW assists women in the community through educational, career, social, and legislative opportunities. The organization makes annual donations to the Haven of Hope and awards a yearly scholarship to a selected recipient active in pursuing her education and volunteering in the community.
