GUERNSEY COUNTY, Ohio -- Another suspicious fire - the third in less than a week - is under investigation in Guernsey County.
Crews from the New Concord Fire Department were called to the scene of a barn fire on West Road, near the intersection with State Route 83, at around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday. According to Fire Chief Brent Gates, firefighters found a large barn fully-engulfed and badly-damaged when they arrived. Two smaller, nearby barns had caught fire, as well.
Chief Gates said that crews monitored the large barn fire, but allowed it to burn down before putting out hot spots. All firefighters were off the scene by around 2:00 a.m.
Chief Gates said he believes the fire may be arson, as no apparent source of ignition was present at the scene. The State Fire Marshal's Office has been called in to investigate.
Local officials have indicated that a Sunday morning fire in Buffalo and Wednesday night fire in Londonderry also occurred under suspicious circumstances.
Michael Duchesne, spokesman for the State Fire Marshal's Office, told AVC News that all three investigations remain open, and that investigators have found no evidence to confirm that the fires are linked.
