COLUMBUS, OH (AP)--The death of a 4-year-old after she was found unresponsive in a Northwest Columbus apartment has officially been ruled a homicide.
According to police, Layla Malone, age 4, was found on November 6 with visible injuries from a severe beating. Malone was taken to Nationwide Children's Hospital where she later died.
On Saturday, Columbus homicide detectives were informed that the Franklin County Coroner ruled the death a homicide. That determination was reached based upon the multiple severe injuries that Malone suffered. Michael McDaniel, age 28, was originally arrested and charged with felonious assault. Detectives now say that the charge will be amended to murder.
McDaniel is being held on a $1 million bond.
