COSHOCTON, Ohio -- A Belle Valley man fell from an oil rig to his death early Thursday morning near West Lafayette.
Coshocton County Sheriff Tim Rogers told AVC News that 27-year-old John Roberts sustained fatal injuries after falling 50 feet from a rig platform just after 12:00 a.m. Thursday. Crews from the Coshocton County EMS and West Lafayette Fire Department responded immediately to the scene near County Road 5, but were unable to revive the victim. County Coronor Dr. Robert Gwinn pronounced Roberts dead at the scene. Gwinn says he ruled it an accidental death, stemming from severe head injuries.
Sources say Roberts was an employee of Senecaville-based FMS Drilling, Inc. Company officials could not be reached for comment on Thursday morning.
A complete evaluation of the accident will take about three to four weeks, and will include blood tests and a toxicology report, which are standard procedure for every accidental death.
