NOBLE COUNTY, Ohio -- Authorities say a Caldwell man drowned while fishing with his teenaged daughter on Thursday afternoon.
Sheriff Stephen S. Hannum told AVC News that 55-year-old Sheldon L. Reed entered the private pond near Hoskinsville at around 2:00 p.m. to fetch a fishing lure, fell beneath the surface of the water unexpectedly, and did not come back up. Hannum said that Reed's 15-year-old daughter and a family friend were unable to recover Reed's body. He was pulled from the water by first responders approximately 40 minutes later, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff Hannum said that neither alcohol or an underlying medical condition is believed to have played a role in the drowning, and that "there is no reason to suspect anything other than an accidental death."
Hannum said that due to the circumstances of the death, no autopsy is planned. Reed's body was transported to a Caldwell funeral home for final arrangements.
