ZANESVILLE, Ohio -- Muskingum County authorities are investigating a fatal shooting incident that took place Thursday morning at the Burger King restaurant in South Zanesville.
According to reports from the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office, two men entered the restaurant around 10:00 a.m. and opened fire, mortally wounding 61-year-old Charles Hooper. Sheriff Matt Lutz says Hooper was killed in front of customers and Burger King employees.
Witnesses says the two male suspects then fled the scene in a silver pick-up truck. Sheriff Lutz says the suspects were at-large for a short time, but were taken into custody by State troopers and Sheriff's deputies around two hours later. No other details have been released, at this time.
Law enforcement officials would not comment on a possible motive for the shooting. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Sheriff's Office, Zanesville Police Department and State Highway Patrol are assisting the South Zanesville Police Department in the investigation.
