Noble County

Noble County, Ohio, the land of picturesque tree-covered hills, white farmhouses, Mail Pouch Barns, and covered bridges. Experience the rural splender of a bygone era and visit the old churches and buildings and view the land Johnny Appleseed and Lew Wetzel once trod. Interact with the landscape through the numerous hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, swimming, and camping possibilities that abound.

The Navy dirigible, the first rigid airship built in America, was broken apart during a severe thunderstorm in the early morning hours of September 3, 1925, and fell to earth in 3 parts over the rugged hills of Noble County. The site where the stern came to rest is visible from interstate 77, north of the Belle Valley exit in Noble County. A monument and picnic area mark the spot of the bow section along Route 78. The 3rd site where the control car was broken off is located on a farm east of I-77, about 1/2 mile from where the stern came to rest. A monument and flag mark this site. Two area schools are named after the airship.
